Welcome Dayton

I recently shot an assignment in Dayton for the New York Times about a program called Welcome Dayton where the city is recruiting immigrant to the community to become members of the Dayton community. I was amazed by how the city embraced this idea and are taking action to better their community and it's members. I spent most of the day with members of a large Turkish population in the Dayton area who resettled in the city seven years ago after moving there from Russia. Walk the Moon for VICE

This is a recent shoot I did for Vice Magazine. It was part of their Budweiser Promotion series. Walk the Moon was the name of the group. I didn't know who they were (I'm too old) but I did know a couple of the songs they wrote. 

They were a great group to work with and the location made the shoot perfect. They lived in an old Mason Lodge on the outskirts of Cincinnati. Perfect!

Tobacco Harvest for Bloomberg News

    It's been quite awhile since I have posted anything. I'm going to make an effort to get more posts up             more often!

I recently covered the Tobacco harvest in southern Ohio. I knew the crop was grown in the midwest but I had no idea it was in my home state. I had the pleasure of shooting all day at Baldwin Farms in Manchester, Ohio.

It's really amazing to watch how people harvest tobacco. It's all done by hand! From cutting the crop on the two acre plot to curing it in the barn, all of it involves the rigorous, intense labor of a handful of seasoned professionals. It was something I will never forget and hope to cover again in the future.

AEP Coal Barges for Bloomberg News

I recently spent two and half days on the AEP Leader, a Tug Boat owned by American Electric    Power, on a trip down the Ohio River. I boarded the tug in Powhatan, West Virginia and traveled with the crew of nine employees, down the river to Gallipolis, Ohio. The Barge was pushing 15 barges containing 30,000 tons of coal. The crew worked 24 hour shifts for 21 days straight through. They are a unique breed of people I had the honor to spend some time with.
